RALPH is my very special sourdough starter. I started Ralph October of 2023. Ralph is in honor of my late uncle Mike. You might be wondering why is it named Ralph if it’s in honor of your uncle Mike?

My uncle passed away when I was in the process of trying to start my own sourdough starter. Although my first attempt was unsuccessful my second attempt ended up working out. As I was trying to think of a name for my starter my uncle Mike passed away. Since I wanted to honor him, I kept thinking of names for my sourdough starter that would be in remembrance of him. I didn’t want to name my starter Mike, because I just thought that would be weird. So I started thinking of happy memories with my uncle. Little backstory here. My uncle Mike was hit by a drunk driver when he was very young and has been in a wheelchair for the majority of his life with a traumatic brain injury. My uncle Mike had a love of cats and anytime he saw any cat at all he would call it, Ralph. So when I was thinking of happy memories, I immediately thought of how he used to call every cat Ralph .

So Ralph it is. RIP uncle Mike❤️
